Deanna Oppenheimer is recognized as one of the most influential leaders in financial services globally, with over 30 years of leadership experience. She has an unusual combination of banking, retail, innovation, brand, and communication skills. She is a turnaround strategist known for her ability to transform entrenched institutions into forward-thinking, customer-centric champions. Oppenheimer works with clients at the intersection of technology, services, and global markets. She is particularly skilled at converting strategy to a culture of operational excellence in addition to her expertise in board-CEO succession dynamics.

Career History

Oppenheimer is the Founder and CEO of CameoWorks, LLC, a retail and financial services advisory firm. She is also a senior independent director for Tesco PLC ($70B), and sits on the boards of Thompson Reuters, Slalom, PATH, and the private board of Seattle-based Joshua Green Corporation. She is the Chair for Hargreaves Landsown PLC and is the founder of BoardReady.io, a non-profit committed to the diversification of governing boards. Her previous corporate board experiences include non-executive director roles at NCR Corporation, Catellus, a leading U.S. development company, and Plum Creek Timber, the largest private landowner in the U.S. She was formerly a board member of AXA Group ($100B) and a member of the remuneration committee at Whitbread. She was also a member of the advisory board for Bain Consulting and Brooks Running.

From 2005 to 2012, Oppenheimer worked at Barclays Retail Banking PLC, starting as Chief Executive of the UK business before serving as Vice-Chair, Global Retail Banking ($45B), sharing best practices across Europe and Africa. Oppenheimer’s clear-focused strategies led to Barclays ranking #1 among high-street banks in customer satisfaction and 92% in employee engagement. Previous to Barclays, Oppenheimer was the President of Consumer Banking at Washington Mutual, Inc., the largest savings and loan institution in the U.S. During her tenure, she helped transform the lender from a regional to a national player resulting in Washington Mutual being named Best Retail Bank in the Americas by Lafferty International and Top 40 Store Concepts in the World by Retail Industry Leaders Association.

In 2007, Oppenheimer was named Britain’s Business Communicator of the Year and in 2010 was voted American Banker magazine’s Second Most Powerful Woman in Banking. Recently, she was granted the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Inspiring Leadership Trust in London.

Personal

Oppenheimer divides her time between London and Seattle where she lives with her husband. She graduated with honors from the University of Puget Sound in Washington State. She has also attended the Executive Education program of the Kellogg School of Management.
