Overview
Christopher Lee is an investor and board member with a passion to work with entrepreneurs, servant leaders, and CEOs of innovative companies. He has strong governance experience as Audit Committee Chair, has guided CEO successions, and continues to lead and participate in corporate governance seminars in risk management domestically and internationally. Currently, Lee is a senior partner at the private investment firm Farron, Augustine & Alexander (FAA Investments) specializing in real estate, hedge funds and private equity managers.
Career History
Since 2015, he has been a board member for Matthews Asia Funds, the largest US ‘40 Act mutual fund group (18 funds and $30 billion) with dedicated focus on Asia. Since 2020, Lee has been a strategic advisory board member for Linqto Inc., (www.linqto.com) a Fintech company enabling private investing made simple. Previously, he served as a board member for Dixon Advisory Group’s Asia Master Fund (ASX: AUF) in Australia and board member for Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co Ltd (SEHK: 2208) in China. His other board appointments include Salzburg Global Seminar in Salzburg, Austria, Smithsonian Libraries and Archives Advisory Board in Washington DC, Mercy Housing California, and Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute. Since 2015, he has been an Associate Professor of Science Practice in Financial Mathematics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Earlier in his career, Lee was an investment banker for 18 years at Deutsche Bank, UBS Investment Bank, and Bank of America-Merrill Lynch. He rose rapidly to managing director in 2004 as divisional business head and later served as a management committee member globally. Lee managed P&L from $20 million to $1 billion by providing equity sales and trading functions to institutional clients. He pioneered an e-commerce platform (EQI) for equity derivatives transactions, enabled the democratization of new structured product innovation, championed talent development internally, and expanded aggressively into new markets like China and India strategically. Under his leadership, the db-X ETF gathered AUM of $10 billion via a digital marketing strategy. Prior to his Wall Street career, Lee was an engineer in Silicon Valley, CA specializing in software and mechatronics.
Personal
Directors and Boards Magazine named Lee “Directors to Watch” in 2017 and Financial Times named him “The Agenda Diversity 100 Directors” in 2021. Lee completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP 178) at Harvard University and holds an MBA and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Lee splits his time between San Francisco and Hong Kong.
